Dietitian Picks: Kitchen Appliances

Simplifying my time in the kitchen is something I truly enjoy, and one way I achieve this is by filling it with useful appliances. If you cook for a large family or enjoy meal prepping, these purchases can be a great help. They not only make your kitchen experience more efficient but also ensure it's mess-free and enjoyable. Below, I've included links and descriptions of four of my favorite kitchen picks for this year. These items are definitely worth the investment!


1. Airfryer:

This air fryer tops my Black Friday recommendations list for several reasons. Over the years, it has become my go-to for quick and easy work-day meals and snacks. For midday snacks, I toss slices of fresh veggies like zucchini or sweet potatoes into the air fryer with some seasonings to make crispy veggie "chips" in just 5-10 minutes. For dinner, I dip skinless chicken breasts in seasoning, egg-wash, and ground oats to make "fried" chicken in 25 minutes.


If you have a small family, an air fryer under 5 quarts might be suitable. For larger families, a 5.8-quart or bigger size can be ideal. My air fryer has made meal prep incredibly convenient and healthy—it's an experience worth trying out!!


2. Instant Pot Smart WIFI

If you haven't hopped onto the Instant Pot wagon yet, now is the time! This kitchen appliance is highly recommended due to the amount of convenience it provides when it comes to mealtime. This Instant pot can save some space in your kitchen due to its 8-in-1 features. It can be used as a slow cooker, pressure cooker, steamer, cake maker and more. Its wifi and Alexa connectivity allows you to control cooking time and adjustments on-command or on-the-go. You can gain the benefits of hassle free meal-time and freed up counter space with the addition of just one appliance!

3. Veggie Spiralizer

 A fun and delicious way to increase your veggie intake is by turning them into noodles! If you're an adult looking to add more vegetables to your diet, or if you have kids who are picky about eating their greens, a spiralizer can be a game-changer. For those cooking for 1-2 people, a convenient handheld spiralizer is a great choice. However, if you often prepare meals for 3-4 individuals, I recommend the Paderno World Cuisine Pro spiralizer/slicer.


I love to use a spiralizer to transform veggies like zucchini, cucumber, beets, and carrots into noodle shapes. These veggie noodles are perfect for making cold and crunchy salads or warm dishes like veggie stir-frys. It's a simple and enjoyable way to make eating vegetables more appealing!

From dips like hummus and chutneys to baby food and soups, a handheld blender is incredibly versatile and can simplify your kitchen tasks. Hand blenders are not only more convenient but also save valuable storage space compared to traditional blenders. Whether you're whipping up a quick smoothie or pureeing a hearty soup, this appliance is a real time-saver and a must-have in any kitchen.
